A classed vessel is, therefore, one that provides for both the safety of personnel and cargoes carried, as well as helps to protect the enviornment in which it may operate. Because of the way it is organized and operated, ABS maintains an impartial and uncompromised postion in performing classification services around the world. In this way, ABS effectively acts as a self-regulatory agency to the international marine community, both private and public, in promoting the safety of life, property, and protecting the environment. In support of its classification and related services, ABS offers a broad range of technical services to assist owners, operators, shipyards and others in designing, building, operating and maintaining their vessels safety and effectively.
