Adani Gangavaram Port Inaugurates Driver Management Centre to Boost Safety and Operational Standards

Adani Gangavaram Port has inaugurated a new Driver Management Centre (DMC), marking a significant step in the port's ongoing commitment to safety, operational excellence, and sustainable transportation, according to Port Technology International. The centre was formally opened in the presence of senior leadership, employees, and transport partners, underscoring the collaborative approach the port is taking to embed safety culture across its logistics chain. The DMC is designed to serve as a centralised hub for managing the large volume of truck and vehicle movements that are integral to bulk port operations. By bringing driver coordination, monitoring, and welfare functions under one roof, the facility is expected to reduce congestion, improve turnaround times, and minimise the risk of vehicle-related incidents within the port precinct. Gangavaram Port, located on India's eastern coastline in Andhra Pradesh, is one of the country's deepest ports and handles significant volumes of coal, fertilisers, and other bulk commodities. Since its acquisition by the Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) group, the facility has undergone a series of infrastructure and operational upgrades aligned with the conglomerate's broader digitalisation and safety agenda. The introduction of a dedicated Driver Management Centre reflects a growing trend across major port operators globally, where land-side logistics — particularly heavy vehicle management — is increasingly recognised as a critical component of overall port safety and throughput performance. Driver fatigue, inadequate briefing procedures, and poor traffic management within port gates have historically been contributing factors to workplace incidents at bulk terminals.
