Amazon Expands Air Cargo Network in Northeast India

By MGN EditorialMarch 14, 2026 at 12:06 PM

Amazon's in-house cargo airline has launched new routes in India's northeast region, improving delivery speeds for the e-commerce giant.

In a move to bolster its logistics capabilities in India, Amazon has expanded the network of its in-house cargo airline to the country's northeast region. The company announced the launch of new routes connecting the cities of Kolkata and Guwahati to Delhi and other regions with Amazon's fulfillment centers. According to Freight Waves, the expansion is expected to improve delivery speeds by up to five days for customers in the northeast. This strategic move aligns with Amazon's broader efforts to enhance its supply chain and reduce reliance on third-party carriers, particularly in fast-growing markets like India. 'The new routes will enable faster deliveries and provide seamless connectivity for our sellers and customers in the region,' said an Amazon spokesperson. 'This is part of our continued investment in infrastructure and technology to provide a superior customer experience.' The northeast region of India has historically faced logistical challenges due to its remote location and limited transportation options. By establishing direct air cargo links, Amazon aims to overcome these obstacles and better serve its growing customer base in the area. This expansion is the latest in a series of moves by Amazon to build out its own logistics network, which includes the development of a global air cargo fleet and the establishment of fulfillment centers and sortation hubs around the world. As the e-commerce giant continues to invest in its supply chain capabilities, industry analysts expect it to play an increasingly prominent role in the global logistics landscape.
