## APM Terminals Los Angeles Expands Electric Fleet with 40-Unit Orange EV Contract
APM Terminals Los Angeles has announced a new procurement contract with Orange EV for 40 HUSK-e® XP battery-electric terminal tractors at Pier 400, according to a press release issued via PR Newswire on 16 June 2026. The agreement builds on an existing fleet relationship between the two companies and marks a significant step forward in the terminal's ongoing transition away from diesel-powered yard equipment.
The addition of the 40 new units will increase Pier 400's total electric terminal tractor count, reinforcing the facility's position as one of the most actively electrified marine terminals on the US West Coast. Pier 400 is the largest container terminal in the Western Hemisphere by berth length and handles a substantial share of cargo moving through the Port of Los Angeles.
### Accelerating the Zero-Emission Transition
The move aligns with broader regulatory and environmental pressures facing terminal operators in California. The California Air Resources Board (CARB) has established increasingly stringent requirements for cargo-handling equipment at ports, with mandates pushing operators toward zero-emission technologies on defined timelines. Orange EV's HUSK-e XP model is purpose-built for heavy-duty terminal operations, designed to handle the continuous-duty cycles typical of busy container terminals. The vehicles are engineered to replace Class 8 diesel terminal tractors without compromising throughput performance — a critical consideration for a high-volume facility like Pier 400.
