A joint venture of OMV Petrom, Israeli energy firm NewMed Energy, and Bulgarian Energy Holding EA has concluded drilling operations on an exploration well in the Black Sea without discovering significant gas volumes, according to offshore-energy.biz.
The well, operated by OMV Offshore Bulgaria—the Bulgarian affiliate of Austria-based OMV Petrom—represents the latest in a series of exploratory efforts to assess hydrocarbon potential in the eastern Black Sea. The involvement of NewMed Energy Balkan, a subsidiary of Israeli operator NewMed Energy, underscores the international appetite for energy resources in the region despite geopolitical sensitivities.
