The approval represents a key validation step for the company's wind-assisted propulsion system (WAPS) and signals growing institutional confidence in wind-assisted technologies as a viable pathway to maritime decarbonisation. Bureau Veritas, one of the world's foremost ship classification and certification bodies, issues design assessment certificates following rigorous technical evaluation of a system's engineering integrity, safety standards, and compliance with applicable maritime regulations. Achieving such approval is widely regarded as a prerequisite for commercial deployment aboard ocean-going vessels. Wind-assisted propulsion has gained considerable momentum across the shipping industry in recent years as operators and owners face mounting pressure to reduce fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions in line with the International Maritime Organization's (IMO) revised 2023 decarbonisation strategy, which targets net-zero emissions from international shipping by or around 2050. Anemoi Marine Technologies specialises in rotor sail technology — large, rotating cylindrical structures mounted on a vessel's deck that harness the Magnus effect to generate forward thrust from wind energy.
