Drydocks World, a major Dubai-based shipyard, has joined an industry group focused on reducing greenhouse gas emissions from ships.
Drydocks World, one of the largest shipyards in the Middle East, has joined the Getting to Zero Coalition, a partnership of over 150 companies across the maritime, energy, infrastructure, and finance sectors that is focused on developing zero-emission vessels and the supporting infrastructure.
According to the announcement from Seatrade Maritime, Drydocks World's participation in the coalition will bring 'on the ground experience of integrating technologies ship board' to help advance the group's goals of having commercially viable zero-emission vessels operating along deep-sea trade routes by 2030, and achieving full decarbonization of the international shipping industry by 2050.
'Joining the Getting to Zero Coalition is an important step for Drydocks World as we continue our commitment to sustainability and emissions reduction,' said Capt. Rado Antolovic PhD, CEO of Drydocks World. 'As a leading shipyard, we have a critical role to play in supporting the development and adoption of new green technologies that will transform the maritime industry.'
The Getting to Zero Coalition is led by the Global Maritime Forum, the World Economic Forum, and the Friends of Ocean Action. It brings together companies, research institutions, and other stakeholders to accelerate the transition to zero-emission shipping. Drydocks World's participation adds an important shipyard perspective to the coalition's efforts.
