Egypt Expands Container Terminal Capacity with Two New Facilities

By MGN EditorialFebruary 27, 2026 at 04:00 PM

Egypt is expanding its container terminal landscape with the launch of two new facilities, RSCT Sokhna and Damietta Alliance, set to begin commercial operations in early 2026.

Egypt's container terminal landscape is undergoing significant expansion with the launch of two new facilities, according to data from maritime analytics firm Kpler. The Red Sea Container Terminals (RSCT) facility in Sokhna and the Damietta Alliance Container Terminals (DACT) at the Port of Damietta are both scheduled to begin commercial operations in early 2026, strengthening Egypt's position as a key logistics hub in the region. 'RSCT Sokhna is expected to have an initial capacity of 3.5 million TEUs, while DACT will have a capacity of 2.5 million TEUs,' said the Hellenic Shipping News. 'Both terminals will feature modern, automated equipment and infrastructure to handle the growing container volumes passing through Egypt.' The new terminals come as Egypt continues to invest in its port infrastructure to meet rising demand. 'Egypt's strategic location and growing trade volumes make it an attractive market for container terminal operators,' according to gCaptain. 'These new facilities will help the country keep pace with the region's expanding shipping needs.' The launch of RSCT Sokhna and DACT is part of a broader trend of port expansions across the Middle East and North Africa, as countries seek to capitalize on shifting global trade patterns and the continued growth of containerized freight. Maritime industry analysts will be closely watching how these new Egyptian terminals perform and integrate with the country's broader logistics network.
