Jan De Nul Expands Trenching Vessel Fleet

By MGN EditorialMarch 10, 2026 at 03:21 PM

Jan De Nul is adding two new trenching support vessels to its fleet, including one new build and one converted vessel.

Belgian dredging and offshore contractor Jan De Nul is expanding its fleet of specialized trenching support vessels, the company announced this week. The company is taking delivery of one new-build trenching support vessel and converting an existing vessel for trenching operations. These additions will enhance Jan De Nul's capabilities in offshore cable and pipeline installation projects. The new-build vessel, named *Trencher 1*, is a custom-designed trenching support vessel purpose-built to support Jan De Nul's fleet of subsea trenching machines. It will be equipped with a 7-meter wide trenching tool that can operate in water depths up to 10 meters. In addition, Jan De Nul is converting one of its existing vessels, the *Adhémar de Saint-Venant*, into a trenching support vessel. The conversion will equip the vessel with a 4-meter wide trenching tool for shallower water operations. 'These new trenching support vessels will allow us to offer our clients even more specialized equipment and services for their offshore cable and pipeline installation projects,' said Peter De Pooter, Managing Director Offshore at Jan De Nul Group. 'We continue to invest in our fleet to meet the growing demand for offshore renewable energy infrastructure.' The additions come as the offshore energy sector sees increasing activity in subsea cable and pipeline installation to support the buildout of offshore wind farms and other offshore energy projects. Specialized trenching vessels play a critical role in burying and protecting these vital subsea assets. According to gCaptain, Jan De Nul is one of the world's leading dredging and offshore contractors, with an extensive fleet of vessels supporting a wide range of maritime infrastructure and energy projects globally.
