A new poured polyurethane insole technology called DreamCell VELO is making waves in the running and court sports footwear industry.
A new poured polyurethane (PU) insole technology called DreamCell VELO is shaking up the performance footwear market, according to a recent announcement from the manufacturer.
The DreamCell VELO insoles are touted as a lightweight, high-performance alternative to traditional PU insoles that have long been a staple in running shoes, basketball sneakers, and other athletic footwear. The Portland, Oregon-based company claims their proprietary manufacturing process results in an insole that is up to 30% lighter than industry standards, while maintaining the comfort and durability that made poured PU a go-to choice.
"For years, the weight and density of poured PU insoles have been a limiting factor, especially in high-performance sports footwear," said DreamCell CEO Samantha Weston. "Our new VELO technology reclaims the benefits of poured PU while addressing those pain points through innovative materials science."
The announcement comes as athletic and outdoor brands continue to seek ways to shave weight from their products without sacrificing key performance attributes. In the highly competitive running and court sports markets, even marginal improvements in weight can translate to meaningful advantages for athletes.
Industry observers say the DreamCell VELO insoles could disrupt the status quo if they live up to the company's claims. "Poured PU has been an industry standard for decades, so a truly game-changing innovation in that space would be a big deal," noted gCaptain editor Jack Anderson. "Brands are always on the hunt for the next lightweight, high-performance material that can give their products an edge."
DreamCell is positioning the VELO line as a premium insole solution, with the technology already being adopted by several major footwear brands. The company says the insoles will be available to consumers later this year through both OEM partnerships and direct-to-consumer channels.
