Maritime Industry Briefing: Lindian Resources Secures Full Ownership of Kazakhstan Rare Earths Processing Facility
By MGN Editorial•August 10, 2026 at 02:55 AM
Lindian Resources has acquired 100% ownership of the SARECO hydrometallurgical processing facility in Kazakhstan, a move with potential implications for rare earth supply chains serving maritime and heavy industry sectors.
## Lindian Resources Achieves Full Control of Rare Earths Hydromet Facility
Australian mining company Lindian Resources Limited (ASX: LIN) has completed the acquisition of the remaining 49% interest in SARECO, securing full ownership of the Mixed Rare Earths Carbonate (MREC) hydrometallurgical processing facility located in Stepnogorsk, Kazakhstan, the company announced on 10 August 2026.
According to a PR Newswire release issued from Perth, Australia, the transaction gives Lindian 100% control over an operational rare earth processing asset — a significant milestone for the company as it positions itself within the global critical minerals supply chain.
The SARECO facility processes Mixed Rare Earths Carbonate through hydrometallurgical methods, a technology increasingly central to the production of rare earth elements used in electric motors, wind turbines, and advanced navigation and propulsion systems — all of which have direct relevance to the maritime and offshore energy industries.
### Relevance to Maritime and Offshore Sectors
Rare earth elements are essential components in the permanent magnets used in electric and hybrid marine propulsion systems, as well as in offshore wind generation equipment. As the maritime industry accelerates its transition toward low-carbon technologies, secure access to rare earth processing capacity is becoming a strategic priority for vessel manufacturers, shipyards, and energy developers.
Full ownership of an operational processing facility — rather than a development-stage project — gives Lindian a near-term production advantage in a market where supply chain security for critical minerals remains a pressing concern for Western-aligned industries.
Kazakhstan has emerged as a notable hub for rare earth processing, leveraging its Soviet-era industrial infrastructure and proximity to significant mineral deposits across Central Asia.
### Company Outlook
Lindian Resources has not yet disclosed the financial terms of the acquisition of the remaining 49% stake. The company is listed on the Australian Securities Exchange and has been expanding its critical minerals portfolio in recent years.
The consolidation of SARECO under full Lindian ownership is expected to streamline operational decision-making and potentially accelerate production scale-up at the Stepnogorsk facility.
Industry observers will be watching closely to see how Lindian positions SARECO's output within global rare earth supply agreements, particularly as demand from maritime electrification and offshore wind projects continues to grow.
