The Maritime Anti-Corruption Network (MACN) has introduced a new digital platform designed to give seafarers practical, data-driven intelligence to help them identify and resist corrupt practices before arriving at port, according to Seatrade Maritime.
The platform aggregates data from over 70,000 corruption reports submitted by maritime operators worldwide, translating that accumulated intelligence into automated pre-arrival port briefings delivered directly to crew. The tool aims to close a critical information gap that has long left seafarers vulnerable to solicitation of bribes and other forms of corruption during port calls.
Maritime corruption remains a persistent and costly challenge for the global shipping industry. Crew members arriving at unfamiliar ports are frequently targeted by officials demanding unofficial payments to expedite inspections, clear documentation, or grant vessel access. Without reliable, port-specific intelligence, seafarers have historically had little recourse beyond anecdotal guidance from colleagues or company procedures that may not reflect current conditions on the ground.
