Danish toy company LEGO is launching a new collector's set celebrating Maersk's first methanol-powered container ship, the Ane Maersk.

In a move that celebrates the maritime industry's push towards sustainability, the Danish toy giant LEGO is set to launch a new collector's set featuring Maersk's methanol-powered flagship, the Ane Maersk. The 'Maersk Dual-Fuel Container Vessel (40955)' set, which hits shelves on March 1, brings the world's first container ship capable of running on green methanol to life in LEGO form. According to gCaptain, the 1,552-piece model 'captures the vessel's sleek, modern design and innovative dual-fuel capabilities.' The Ane Maersk, which was delivered to Maersk in 2022, is the first in a series of eight methanol-powered container ships the company has on order. These vessels represent a significant step forward in the industry's efforts to reduce emissions and transition towards more sustainable fuels. 'We're thrilled to partner with LEGO to bring this groundbreaking vessel to life in brick form,' said Henriette Hallberg Thygesen, CEO of Fleet & Strategic Brands at A.P. Moller - Maersk. 'The Ane Maersk is a symbol of our commitment to decarbonizing shipping, and we hope this LEGO set will inspire the next generation of maritime innovators.' The release of the LEGO set coincides with growing momentum in the industry's shift towards alternative fuels. As the Maritime Executive reports, several major shipping companies have announced plans to invest in methanol-powered vessels, underscoring the fuel's potential as a viable solution for reducing the sector's environmental impact.
