Maritime Industry Briefing: AI Digitalization Unlocks $500B Oil & Gas Value; Boskalis CSV Returns to North Sea Operations
By MGN Editorial•May 28, 2026 at 12:00 PM
Rystad Energy forecasts nearly $500 billion in cumulative value for E&P companies through AI adoption by 2030, while Boskalis' BOKA Northern Ocean resumes North Sea operations following a dry dock period in Spain.
## AI and Digitalization Set to Deliver $500 Billion Windfall for Oil & Gas Sector
Exploration and production companies that embrace artificial intelligence and digitalization could collectively unlock close to $500 billion in cumulative value between 2026 and 2030, according to new analysis from energy market intelligence group Rystad Energy.
The forecast underscores a growing industry consensus that digital transformation is no longer a peripheral investment but a core strategic imperative for offshore operators. Rystad's analysis points to AI-driven efficiencies across the upstream value chain — from seismic interpretation and reservoir modelling to predictive maintenance and production optimisation — as the primary drivers of this substantial value creation.
For an industry that has spent the better part of a decade managing cost pressures and capital discipline, the scale of the opportunity identified by Rystad is significant. Companies that move early to integrate AI into their operational workflows are expected to capture a disproportionate share of the projected gains, widening the competitive gap with slower-moving peers.
The findings arrive as offshore energy operators continue to invest in digital infrastructure, with AI-assisted drilling, autonomous inspection systems, and cloud-based data platforms becoming increasingly standard across major basins worldwide.

## Boskalis' BOKA Northern Ocean Back on Station After Spanish Dry Dock
In vessel operations news, Boskalis has confirmed that its construction support vessel (CSV) BOKA Northern Ocean has returned to active service in the North Sea following the completion of a scheduled dry dock period at a shipyard in Spain.
The BOKA Northern Ocean, built in 2012, is a key asset in Boskalis' offshore contracting fleet, supporting subsea construction and installation activities across the North Sea region. Dry dock periods are a routine but operationally critical element of vessel lifecycle management, encompassing hull inspections, maintenance works, and class renewal surveys required to maintain certification under international maritime regulations.
The vessel's return to the North Sea comes during a period of sustained activity in the region, with ongoing offshore wind installation campaigns and oil and gas infrastructure maintenance programmes keeping construction support tonnage in strong demand.
Boskalis has not disclosed the specific scope of works carried out during the dry dock or the vessel's immediate contract commitments upon return to service.
