### Karpowership Eyes Yucatán with LNG-to-Power Project
Türkiye-based Karpowership, the world's leading owner and operator of floating power vessels, is advancing plans to deploy a powership and a liquefied natural gas terminal vessel (LNGTS) off Mexico's Yucatán Peninsula, according to Offshore Energy. The project is designed to bolster the region's energy infrastructure by converting LNG into electricity via a floating generation platform — a model Karpowership has deployed across multiple emerging markets in Africa, Asia, and the Middle East.
The Yucatán initiative represents a significant step in Mexico's efforts to diversify and strengthen its power supply, particularly in a peninsula that faces geographic constraints limiting conventional grid expansion. By combining an LNG receiving terminal with onboard generation capacity, the project offers a flexible, scalable solution that can be deployed relatively quickly compared to land-based infrastructure.
Karpowership's powerships are self-contained vessels capable of generating between 36 MW and 470 MW, and the company currently operates a fleet serving countries facing acute energy shortfalls. The Mexico project would mark a notable expansion of the company's footprint in Latin America.
### Offshore Vessel Charging Pilot to Launch in Denmark
In a separate development with significant implications for offshore fleet decarbonisation, an international consortium led by Stillstrom — a venture operating under the A.P. Moller–Maersk umbrella — has secured backing for an offshore vessel charging pilot set to launch in Denmark in June 2026, Offshore Energy reports.
The pilot is designed to demonstrate the viability of charging offshore support vessels while at anchor or at berth, using subsea or mooring-based power transfer technology. If successful, the initiative could provide a practical pathway for reducing diesel consumption and emissions among the large fleets of offshore support vessels operating in the North Sea and beyond.
Stillstrom has been developing its offshore charging concept for several years, positioning the technology as a critical enabler for hybrid and fully electric offshore vessels. The Danish pilot is expected to generate operational data that could inform broader commercial rollout across offshore wind and oil and gas support operations.
