The ongoing tensions between Iran and the U.S./Israel coalition have delivered their most severe blow yet to global energy infrastructure, according to industry reports. QatarEnergy has confirmed 'catastrophic damage' to two of its flagship LNG trains, while a cascade of fresh strikes on Middle East energy hubs threatens to further disrupt already strained global energy supply chains. The attacks come as the conflict in the Strait of Hormuz has intensified, with Iran threatening to impose 'tolls' on ships passing through the critical chokepoint. 'This is the most serious disruption to global energy infrastructure since the Abqaiq attack in 2019,' said one energy analyst quoted by Splash247. 'The implications for LNG, oil, and shipping markets will be severe and long-lasting.' In a separate development, the long-running dispute between the Panamanian government and Hong Kong-based Hutchison Ports has escalated, with the country's president accusing the port operator of 'lying' about the handling of arbitration proceedings. The dispute has already stripped Hutchison of its control over two of the Panama Canal's most strategic terminals. Amid the geopolitical turmoil, there are also signs of growth in the energy sector, with Italian major Eni announcing final investment decisions for two major gas projects offshore Indonesia. The 'South Hub' and 'North Hub' developments are expected to drive significant production increases for Eni in the coming years, underscoring the industry's continued efforts to expand energy supplies despite the challenging global environment.
