New Engineering Program Launches for High School Students at NASA's Space Center

The National Student Leadership Conference and Space Center Houston have partnered to offer a new nine-day summer program that immerses high school students in NASA's astronaut training and mission development environment.
In an exciting development for the next generation of maritime and aerospace engineers, the National Student Leadership Conference (NSLC) and Space Center Houston have launched a new summer program that will give high school students a hands-on, immersive experience inside NASA's training facilities.
The nine-day 'Engineering the Future' program will place students directly into NASA's astronaut training and mission development environment, allowing them to participate in a range of engineering simulations and projects. According to the press release, students will 'work alongside NASA experts and use the latest technology to design, build and test engineering solutions for real-world challenges.'
'This program is a unique opportunity for high school students to get an inside look at the engineering work happening at NASA and gain valuable skills they can apply to future STEM careers,' said Jane Doe, Director of Education at Space Center Houston. 'By putting them in the shoes of NASA engineers, we hope to inspire the next generation of innovators who will shape the future of the maritime, aerospace and other high-tech industries.'
The program is open to rising 10th-12th grade students and will take place at Space Center Houston, the official visitor center of NASA's Johnson Space Center. Participants will have the chance to tour NASA facilities, interact with astronauts and engineers, and put their problem-solving skills to the test through hands-on design challenges.
'Exposing young people to these kinds of immersive STEM experiences is critical for developing the talent pipeline our industries will need in the years ahead,' commented John Smith, CEO of the National Student Leadership Conference. 'We're thrilled to partner with Space Center Houston to offer this unique program and look forward to seeing the innovative ideas these students bring to the table.'
Applications for the 'Engineering the Future' program are now open, with sessions scheduled for June and July 2026. For more information and to apply, students and parents can visit the NSLC website at nslcleaders.org.
