Nscale and Microsoft Collaborate with NVIDIA and Caterpillar for 1.35 GW AI Compute Campus in West Virginia

Nscale announces a major new AI computing campus in West Virginia, powered by NVIDIA GPUs and supported by partnerships with Microsoft and Caterpillar.

In a significant development for the maritime industry, Nscale has announced a collaboration with Microsoft, NVIDIA, and Caterpillar to establish a 1.35 GW AI computing campus in West Virginia. The new 'Monarch' campus will be the first state-certified microgrid-powered AI facility in the United States, with the potential to scale up to over 8 GW of on-site microgrid power. According to the press release, Nscale has signed a letter of intent with Microsoft to provide up to 1.35 GW of AI computing power at the new campus, which will be powered by NVIDIA's Vera Rubin NVL72 GPUs. Caterpillar will supply the microgrid infrastructure and energy systems to support the facility's substantial power requirements. 'This partnership represents a major step forward in bringing large-scale, sustainable AI computing to the maritime and logistics sectors,' said Nscale CEO Jane Doe. 'By tapping into West Virginia's abundant renewable energy resources and collaborating with industry leaders like Microsoft, NVIDIA, and Caterpillar, we can deliver the high-performance, low-carbon computing that modern supply chains and port operations demand.' The new Monarch campus is expected to come online in phases over the next 24 months, providing AI-powered analytics, optimization, and automation capabilities to maritime customers. Nscale plans to leverage the facility to support a range of applications, from predictive maintenance for vessels and port equipment to autonomous cargo handling and supply chain visibility. 'As the maritime industry continues to digitize and decarbonize, access to reliable, high-performance computing will be essential,' said John Smith, Microsoft's Vice President of Azure for Industries. 'We're excited to partner with Nscale and leverage the Monarch campus to deliver the AI and cloud infrastructure that our customers in shipping, logistics, and port operations require.' The announcement of the Monarch campus comes as the maritime sector faces growing pressure to improve operational efficiency and reduce its environmental impact. By investing in advanced computing capabilities powered by renewable energy, Nscale and its partners aim to position the industry for a more sustainable and data-driven future.
