Polyplastics Develops New PLASTRON® LFT Grades with Post-Consumer Recycled Content

By MGN EditorialMarch 2, 2026 at 11:05 AM

Polyplastics, a global leader in engineering thermoplastics, has announced the development of new long-fiber thermoplastic (LFT) PLASTRON® grades made with post-consumer recycled polypropylene.

Tokyo-based Polyplastics Co., Ltd. has unveiled two new grades of its PLASTRON® long-fiber thermoplastic (LFT) product line that incorporate post-consumer recycled (PCR) polypropylene (PP). According to the company's press release, the new LFT materials are designed to help meet growing demand for sustainable plastic solutions in the maritime and other industries. 'As environmental regulations and consumer preferences continue to drive the need for more recycled content in products, we are pleased to expand our PLASTRON® portfolio with these new PCR-based grades,' said a Polyplastics spokesperson. 'These materials maintain the high performance characteristics our customers expect while offering a more sustainable alternative.' The new PLASTRON® LFT grades leverage Polyplastics' expertise in compounding to incorporate up to 50% PCR PP content without sacrificing the mechanical, thermal, and other properties required for demanding marine applications. This includes uses in components for ships, boats, and port equipment. Polyplastics notes that the new PCR-based LFT materials meet relevant industry standards and regulatory requirements. The company plans to further grow its sustainable product offerings to support the maritime sector's sustainability goals. According to gCaptain, the development of these new recycled-content thermoplastics aligns with broader trends in the shipping industry to reduce environmental impact through the use of more circular, recyclable materials. Leading maritime organizations have set ambitious targets for increasing the use of sustainable plastics and other materials in vessels, port infrastructure, and supply chain operations.
