The Port Commission of the Port of Houston Authority held its first meeting of 2026 in the new Port Administration Building, highlighting the port's accomplishments in 2025 and plans for the year ahead.

The Port Commission of the Port of Houston Authority met for its first meeting of 2026 on January 27th, convening in the new Port Administration Building located in Houston's historic Fifth Ward. This marks a significant milestone for the port, as the new building brings the Port of Houston's operations closer to its earliest roots. According to the Hellenic Shipping News, Chairman Ric Campo opened the meeting by highlighting the port's key achievements in 2025. These included record cargo volumes, the completion of major infrastructure projects, and the port's continued focus on sustainability and environmental stewardship. '2025 was a banner year for the Port of Houston,' said Chairman Campo. 'We saw strong growth across our business lines, invested in critical infrastructure to support future expansion, and made important strides in reducing our environmental impact. As we look ahead to 2026, we are focused on building on this momentum and delivering even greater value to our customers and the Houston region.' The port's 2025 accomplishments included handling over 325 million metric tons of cargo, a new record for the facility. This represented a 7% increase over 2024 volumes. The port also completed the first phase of its $1.5 billion container terminal expansion project and opened a new on-dock rail facility to improve cargo flow and reduce truck traffic. In the area of sustainability, the Port of Houston continued to make progress on its goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2035. This included the deployment of electric cargo handling equipment, the installation of shore power capabilities at container berths, and the expansion of its renewable energy program. As the port looks ahead to 2026, key priorities include further infrastructure enhancements, the implementation of new digital technologies to drive operational efficiencies, and the continued pursuit of environmental initiatives. The port also plans to work closely with local and regional stakeholders to ensure the Houston maritime cluster remains globally competitive. 'The new Port Administration Building is a symbol of the Port of Houston's bright future,' concluded Chairman Campo. 'It will serve as a hub for our growing operations and help us better serve our customers and community. We are excited to build on our 2025 achievements and deliver even greater value in the years to come.'
