Port of Rotterdam Expands Methanol and Ethanol Storage Capacity

By MGN EditorialMarch 16, 2026 at 12:01 PM

Evos Rotterdam begins a project to expand storage infrastructure for liquid energy and chemicals at the Port of Rotterdam.

The Port of Rotterdam is bolstering its position as a major hub for liquid energy and chemical storage with a new expansion project led by Evos Rotterdam, a European provider of storage infrastructure. According to Offshore Energy, Evos Rotterdam has begun work to expand its methanol and ethanol storage capacity at the port. The project will add new storage tanks to support growing demand for these liquid fuels, which are seeing increased use as marine fuel alternatives and in industrial applications. 'This expansion project is an important step in further strengthening our position as a leading hub for the storage of liquid energy carriers and chemicals,' said Evos Rotterdam Managing Director Joost Kruijning. 'It will enable us to continue to provide our customers with the storage capacity they need to support the energy transition.' The Port of Rotterdam is a strategic location for storage of these fuels, serving as a major gateway for energy imports into Europe. Expanding methanol and ethanol infrastructure aligns with the port's broader efforts to facilitate the transition to cleaner marine and industrial energy sources.
