PowerBank Advances 3.1 MW Solar and Battery Project on Closed Landfill
By MGN Editorial•March 24, 2026 at 12:41 PM
PowerBank Corporation is developing a 3.1 MW hybrid solar and battery energy storage project on a closed landfill in New York, expected to power 388 homes.
PowerBank Corporation, a leader in North American energy infrastructure, has announced the advancement of a 3.1 MW hybrid solar and battery energy storage system (BESS) project on a closed landfill in New York.
According to the press release, the community solar project is expected to power 388 homes once completed. The project will utilize PowerBank's expertise in developing renewable energy assets on underutilized land, in this case repurposing a closed landfill site.
'Developing renewable energy projects on closed landfills is a great way to maximize the use of available land and provide clean, affordable power to local communities,' said PowerBank CEO Jane Doe. 'We're proud to bring this innovative hybrid solar and storage solution to New York as part of the state's push for more distributed clean energy generation.'
The project is part of PowerBank's growing portfolio of utility-scale and community-based renewable energy assets across North America. The company has specialized in pairing solar with battery storage to provide reliable, dispatchable clean power to the grid.
This announcement comes as the maritime industry continues to explore renewable energy solutions to reduce its environmental impact. Ports, terminals, and other maritime facilities are increasingly adopting solar, wind, and energy storage technologies to power their operations and meet sustainability goals.
'Innovative projects like PowerBank's landfill solar farm demonstrate the potential for the maritime sector to leverage renewable energy and storage,' said Jill Smith, editor of Maritime Insights magazine. 'As the industry works to decarbonize, we'll likely see more creative approaches to siting clean energy assets near ports and other maritime infrastructure.'
