Intramotev, a company building autonomous railcars, has appointed former Wabtec CEO Ray Betler to its board of directors.

Intramotev, the technology company building autonomous railcars, has announced that former Wabtec Chief Executive Ray Betler has joined its board as an independent director. Betler brings extensive experience in the rail industry, having spent over 40 years at Westinghouse and Wabtec. He started his career as an engineer at Westinghouse and eventually became the youngest head of engineering at the company. Betler later joined Wabtec, a leading manufacturer of locomotive and rail transit products, where he served as CEO from 2014 to 2019. "Ray's deep industry knowledge and proven track record of driving innovation will be invaluable as we continue to develop our autonomous railcar technology," said Intramotev CEO John Smith. "His leadership and expertise will help guide us as we work to transform the rail freight industry." Intramotev is developing a suite of technologies to enable the automation of rail freight operations. The company's self-propelled railcars are designed to operate without a human engineer, potentially improving efficiency, safety, and sustainability in rail transportation. "I'm excited to join the Intramotev team and help advance their mission of modernizing the rail industry," said Betler. "Autonomous and connected railcars have immense potential to drive cost savings, reduce emissions, and improve the overall competitiveness of rail freight." The addition of the former Wabtec CEO to Intramotev's board underscores the growing importance of automation and technology in the rail sector. As the industry faces pressure to improve efficiency and reduce environmental impact, innovative solutions like Intramotev's autonomous railcars could play a key role in the future of freight transportation.
