Greek owner Seanergy Maritime has added two more capesize-class newbuilds to its fleet expansion, bringing its total investment in new tonnage to around $226 million.

Seanergy Maritime, the US-listed Greek shipping company, has expanded its newbuilding program with the addition of two more capesize-class bulk carriers, according to a report from Splash247. The company, led by CEO Stamatis Tsantanis, has signed contracts for the construction of the two new vessels at undisclosed Chinese shipyards. This latest order brings Seanergy's total investment in new tonnage to approximately $226 million. The move is part of Seanergy's strategy to modernize and grow its fleet of eco-efficient bulk carriers. The company had previously placed its first-ever newbuilding order in October 2022, contracting four capesize vessels at Chinese yards. 'This additional newbuilding order is a testament to our commitment to fleet renewal and growth,' said Tsantanis. 'The two new vessels will further strengthen our position in the capesize segment and allow us to capitalize on the favorable market conditions.' The new capesize bulkers are expected to be delivered to Seanergy between the fourth quarter of 2024 and the first quarter of 2025. This expansion comes as the dry bulk shipping sector continues to see strong demand, driven by factors like increased global trade and infrastructure development projects. Seanergy's investment in modern, fuel-efficient vessels aligns with the industry's focus on reducing emissions and improving environmental sustainability. As maritime regulations tighten, shipowners are under pressure to upgrade their fleets with greener tonnage. 'By adding these two new capesizes to our fleet, we are positioning Seanergy for long-term success in the dry bulk market,' Tsantanis added. 'We remain committed to delivering value to our shareholders through disciplined fleet growth and operational excellence.'
