Seatrium Secures Third FLNG Conversion Deal with Golar LNG as Offshore Energy Sector Eyes Expansion
By MGN Editorial•August 14, 2026 at 12:00 PM
Singapore's Seatrium has been booked by Golar LNG for a potential third floating LNG conversion project, reinforcing the yard's position as a leading FLNG conversion specialist. Meanwhile, broader offshore energy developments signal continued momentum across the sector.
## Seatrium Lines Up Third FLNG Conversion with Golar LNG
Singapore-headquartered offshore and maritime solutions provider Seatrium has secured a potential third floating LNG (FLNG) conversion assignment with Bermuda-based LNG midstream infrastructure owner and operator Golar LNG, according to Offshore Energy.
The agreement further cements the long-standing commercial relationship between the two companies and underscores Seatrium's growing reputation as a specialist in the technically demanding field of FLNG vessel conversions. FLNG units — which allow natural gas to be liquefied and stored offshore without the need for onshore processing infrastructure — have become an increasingly attractive solution for monetising stranded or remote gas reserves.
Golar LNG has been a pioneer in the FLNG space, operating assets such as the Hilli Episeyo and Gimi, both of which were converted by Seatrium (formerly Keppel Offshore & Marine and Sembcorp Marine prior to their merger). A third conversion project would represent a significant addition to Golar's midstream portfolio and a major contract win for Seatrium's order book.
The news comes at a time of heightened global interest in LNG infrastructure, driven by sustained energy security concerns and strong demand from European and Asian buyers seeking alternatives to pipeline gas supplies.
## Cyprus-Israel Power Interconnector Advances
In a separate offshore energy development, Greece's Independent Power Transmission Operator (IPTO) has submitted an investment approval request for the Cyprus-Israel electricity interconnector, with the project described as financially viable across all assessed scenarios, Offshore Energy reports. The subsea cable project, which would link the electricity grids of Israel and Cyprus — and potentially extend to Greece — has been under development for several years and represents a significant piece of regional energy infrastructure.
## Nuclear Innovation Eyes Maritime and Industrial Markets
Beyond the immediate offshore sector, TerraPower announced this week that it has signed new agreements with South Korean partners, including Hyundai Engineering, to advance deployment of its Natrium reactor technology. While primarily targeting land-based power generation, the development of advanced small modular and sodium-cooled reactor designs is being watched closely by maritime energy analysts as the industry explores low-carbon fuel and power alternatives for the long term.
