South Korea's HD KSOE has tapped French containment specialist GTT for the tank design of a new LNG carrier.

In a move that highlights the growing demand for liquefied natural gas (LNG) shipping, South Korea's HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (HD KSOE) has contracted French technology firm Gaztransport & Technigaz (GTT) to design the LNG storage tanks for a new LNG carrier. According to the announcement, GTT will provide the containment system and associated engineering services for the LNG carrier. This marks the latest collaboration between the South Korean shipbuilder and the French LNG specialist, who have worked together on previous projects. 'We are very pleased to support HD KSOE once again on this new LNG carrier project,' said Philippe Berterottière, Chairman and CEO of GTT. 'This new order demonstrates the extent of our long-standing partnership and the extent to which our technologies are recognized worldwide.' The news comes as the global LNG shipping market continues to grow, driven by increasing demand for cleaner energy sources. Shipowners are investing in new, more efficient LNG carriers to transport this in-demand fuel around the world. GTT's membrane containment systems are widely used in the LNG carrier segment due to their reliability and performance. 'We are proud to continue our collaboration with GTT, a leader in the field of LNG containment systems,' said an HD KSOE spokesperson. 'Their expertise will be a valuable asset as we work to deliver this important new LNG carrier to our customer.' The financial details of the contract were not disclosed. GTT said it expects to book the related revenues during the fourth quarter of 2022.
