Norwegian energy data and intelligence company TGS has secured a contract for an ocean bottom node (OBN) seismic survey project expected to kick off in the fourth quarter of 2026, according to Offshore Energy. The project is scheduled to run for approximately 100 days, underscoring continued industry investment in high-resolution subsurface imaging technology.
OBN surveys are widely regarded as delivering superior seismic data quality compared to conventional towed-streamer methods, particularly in complex geological settings and areas with significant infrastructure on the seabed. The technology deploys individual nodes directly on the ocean floor, enabling full-azimuth, wide-offset data acquisition that supports more accurate reservoir characterisation and field development planning.
For TGS, the contract represents a further expansion of its multi-client and proprietary survey operations at a time when upstream exploration activity is showing renewed momentum across key offshore basins. The company has been actively broadening its geoscience data offerings as operators seek higher-quality subsurface intelligence to underpin drilling and development decisions.
