U.S. Services Sector Continues Expansion in February

By MGN EditorialMarch 4, 2026 at 09:35 PM

The U.S. services sector saw continued growth in February, according to the latest ISM Services PMI report.

The U.S. services sector maintained its expansion in February, with the ISM Services PMI registering at 56.1%, according to the latest report from the Institute for Supply Management (ISM). The Business Activity Index came in at 59.9%, indicating strong growth in service sector output. The New Orders Index was also robust at 58.6%, suggesting healthy demand for services. The Employment Index registered 51.8%, pointing to modest job growth. 'The services sector had another month of strong growth in February,' said Anthony Nieves, Chair of the ISM Services Business Survey Committee. 'Demand remains solid, with the New Orders Index continuing to indicate growth, and employment is still expanding, albeit at a slower rate.' The Supplier Deliveries Index registered 53.9%, indicating slower deliveries, which Nieves attributed to 'ongoing supply chain challenges.' The ISM Services PMI is a closely watched indicator of the health of the U.S. services sector, which accounts for the majority of economic activity. The continued expansion signals that the broader economy remains on solid footing, despite some economic headwinds. 'The services sector is a critical part of the maritime industry, from logistics and transportation to ship repair and other support services,' said Jill Malandrino, editor-in-chief of Maritime Industry News. 'This report suggests the overall business environment remains favorable for maritime companies, even as they navigate supply chain disruptions and other challenges.'
