U.S. Travel Agency Air Ticket Sales Top $10 Billion in January 2026

By MGN EditorialFebruary 19, 2026 at 04:06 PM

The strong start to 2026 signals a continued recovery in air travel, with U.S. travel agency air ticket sales reaching a new monthly milestone.

According to data released by Airlines Reporting Corp. (ARC), U.S.-based travel agency air ticket sales totaled $10 billion in January 2026 - a 7% increase from January 2025. This marks a new monthly high for the industry, signaling a continued recovery in air travel demand. 'The $10 billion in January sales is an important milestone that demonstrates the strength of the air travel market as we start 2026,' said Bob Offutt, senior vice president of product and technology at ARC. 'Robust consumer demand, coupled with increased business travel, is driving this positive trend.' The data aligns with other recent reports of a resurgence in global air passenger traffic. The International Air Transport Association (IATA) forecasted in its latest outlook that worldwide air travel is expected to reach pre-pandemic levels by the end of 2025. Factors such as the lifting of COVID-19 restrictions, pent-up demand, and increased business activity have all contributed to the industry's gradual recovery. For the maritime sector, the growth in air travel is a positive sign, as it often correlates with increased shipping and logistics activity to support the movement of people and goods. Industry analysts will be watching closely to see if this momentum in air travel carries over to other transportation modes, including ocean freight and port operations.
