Vedanta Oil and Gas Partners with Exceed for Krishna-Godavari Deepwater Drilling Campaign

By MGN Editorial•November 4, 2026 at 12:00 PM

India's Vedanta Oil and Gas has engaged UK-based well management specialist Exceed to provide integrated drilling support for an exploration and appraisal campaign in the Krishna-Godavari Basin.

India's Vedanta Oil and Gas has signed a partnership agreement with Exceed, a Kent-based well management specialist, to support a deepwater drilling campaign off India's eastern coast, according to Splash247. The agreement will see Exceed provide integrated well management services for Vedanta's KG-DWHP-2017 block, located in the Krishna-Godavari Basin — one of India's most prospective deepwater hydrocarbon provinces. The basin, situated in the Bay of Bengal, has long been regarded as a key frontier for India's domestic oil and gas ambitions, having previously yielded significant discoveries by other operators. Exceed, which specialises in well engineering and project management for complex drilling operations, will deliver end-to-end support across the exploration and appraisal phase of the campaign. The company's involvement signals a growing appetite among international well services firms to participate in India's upstream sector as the country works to reduce its dependence on imported hydrocarbons. For Vedanta Oil and Gas, the campaign represents a significant step in advancing its Indian upstream portfolio. The KG-DWHP-2017 block was awarded under India's Hydrocarbon Exploration and Licensing Policy (HELP), which was introduced to attract greater private and foreign investment into the country's exploration sector. The Krishna-Godavari Basin has attracted sustained industry attention following major deepwater gas discoveries in the region over the past two decades. Successful appraisal drilling in the block could add materially to India's domestic reserves base at a time when the government is actively pushing to boost indigenous production. The partnership underscores the continued demand for specialist well management expertise in frontier deepwater environments, where technical complexity and cost management are critical to campaign success.
