Vietnam Airlines Expands Fleet with 50 Boeing 737 MAX Jets

In a move to bolster its fleet and network capabilities, Vietnam Airlines has finalized an order for 50 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, the companies announced. This marks the national carrier's first order for Boeing's popular single-aisle jets, as it looks to grow its short- and medium-haul operations. The 737-8 variant will provide Vietnam Airlines with the versatility to efficiently serve domestic and regional routes across Southeast Asia, a market that has seen a rebound in air travel following the COVID-19 pandemic. 'The 737 MAX will be a great complement to our 787 Dreamliner fleet, allowing us to expand our network and provide the best possible experience for our passengers,' said Dang Tat Thang, CEO of Vietnam Airlines. According to Boeing, the order is a significant milestone for the manufacturer's partnership with Vietnam Airlines, which has previously operated the 787 widebody. 'We are honored that Vietnam Airlines has selected the 737 MAX to expand its fleet and grow its business,' said Stan Deal, president and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes. The announcement comes as Vietnam's aviation market continues to recover, with domestic traffic exceeding pre-pandemic levels.
