Chinese heavy equipment manufacturer XCMG has announced the completion of the first main unit of what it describes as the world's first ring crane capable of lifting 14,000 tonnes, according to a PR Newswire release dated 29 August 2026. The milestone represents a historic advance in ultra-heavy lift crane technology and is expected to have far-reaching consequences for large-scale offshore, energy, and industrial construction projects globally.
Ring cranes — also known as ring lift cranes or ring-rail cranes — are distinguished by their circular rail systems, which allow the crane to rotate around a fixed centre point while distributing enormous loads across a wide footprint.
